1. Foundry patterns
A quantity of foundry patterns, originating from The
Dunedin Hillside workshops, are “stored”* (*debatable - Ed) in the
loft at the Gasworks Museum. These items include Gasworks patterns,
DDSD (Dunedin Drainage and Sewage Dept. patterns) and, previously,
various maritime company patterns. The maritime items have recently
been relocated to the Port Chalmers museum. This record is an effort
to preserve the history and identity of the remaining items.
How the patterns arrived at the gasworks carpenters shop is unclear, never-the-less, they were stored in the carpenters shop, (immediately East of the Woodall/Duckham retort, on the Braemar street boundary). The carpenters shop was demolished in the mid 1960's (it is not visible in the museum's late 60,s photos), and at this time the patterns were placed outside and scheduled for destruction. With good fore-site the items were saved and transferred to the present loft.

Item D:

Item E:

Item F:

The marked position of the long-gone carpenters shop. It is remembered as a two story brick building, but removed to allow operators easier access from the vertical retort to the dump site adjacent to the filter beds.
